Review: MONAT Skincare

When it comes to purchasing new skincare, you want to make sure that you get your money’s worth. Nothing is worse than buying a cleanser or a scrub that feels like glorified water or breaks your skin out.

Monat is a brand renowned for their haircare, focusing on naturally derived products; they have recently launched a skincare range. Let’s take a look at this range and whether it’s worth a payday treat or not.

What is Monat?

Monat launched in 2014, created by Luis Urdaneta. The company began by selling naturally derived hair care products. These products are sold through sales consultants, with their social media marketing drawing in lots of sales for them.

Customers have raved about the products and their ability to reverse hair loss and bald spots. In 2019, Monat launched its first skincare range.

Monat Skincare Products

The skincare range focuses on anti-aging, improving your skin’s texture and elasticity, which can disintegrate over time. Skincare also works to minimize the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots.

The range comprises a four-step routine – cleanse, prep, target, and replenish. This is a standard routine that lots of brands and skincare professionals would recommend. The range features two collections, one for dry/sensitive skin and one for normal/combination skin.

You can mix and match products from the collections, tailoring them to your specific skin care needs. Let’s take a closer look at the products available:

1. MONAT Be Gentle Creamy Cleanser

The cleanser is cream-based and can be used in the morning and evenings. The cleanser will provide a deep cleanse without drying the skin; it contains AHA acids and peptides.

2. MONAT Skin Revitalizing Essence

Applied after cleansing, the essence works to prep your next products’ skin. There are also AHA’s in this product, but the chamomile will work to soothe the skin.

3. MONAT Rewind Age Control Nectar

The serum works to smooth and brighten the skin, targeting uneven skin tone, age spots, and elasticity loss. The key ingredients in the serum are Kakadu plum, Rejuvenique oil, peptides, AHAs.

4. MONAT Be Gentle Nourishing Moisturizer

The cream is designed for those with drier skin. It can be used in the day and night, providing hydration and minimizing fine lines’ appearance.

5. MONAT Be Balanced Foamy Cleanser

The foamy cleanser is designed for normal to combination skin (it would be a bit drying for drier skin types) and cleanse the skin while softening it. The cleanser features antioxidants and fruit acids.

6. MONAT Be Balanced Lightweight Moisturizer

This moisturizer is designed for normal to combination skin and will feel lighter on the skin than their nourishing moisturizer. Hyaluronic acid is the main ingredient in this moisturizer. It will provide all-day hydration with a lightweight feel. The Rejuvenique and plant stem cells will reduce the appearance of fine lines.

7. MONAT Plat Bakuchiol Vegan Retinol Alternative

A lightweight formula using Rejuvenies, bakuchiol, and plant squalane; it is designed to mimic retinol. It works to reduce the appearance of age spots, even skin tone, and texture, promote a radiant and smoother complexion, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The product is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin, and provides some hydration too.

Do these products work?

So, will these products turn back the clock on your aging skin? Let’s delve into it and get technical. The products sound relatively similar to others on the market, and the ingredients are nothing new. AHAs are used in a wide range of anti-aging products and should be part of your routine.

AHAs will work to gently exfoliate your skin, even your skin tone, and promote brighter and more radiant skin. Glycolic and lactic acids are the ones that have been thoroughly researched and are proven to work.

For that purpose, these products do work. The chamomile featured in the skin essence, Bisabolol is an excellent German chamomile that soothes the skin and allows the rest of the ingredients to work. It’s found in higher-priced skincare globally.

I would be wary of retinol that did not contain any vitamin A, but the included ingredients in Monat’s version should work to deliver some of its claimed results.

The nectar serum adds moisture to the skin and does an excellent job of smoothing out wrinkles, allowing for a smoother make-up application. Customers were pleased with this product and have even converted others to the serum! It may be the highlight of the range.

The moisturizer provides adequate hydration levels, but considering the AHAs present in the products, I would recommend following the routine with an SPF in the mornings to protect your skin from sun damage.

The hyaluronic acid used in the products will deliver the needed hydration for all skin types.

Are they cruelty-free?

Monat’s entire skincare range is cruelty-free and 100% vegan! Great news for vegans and animal lovers alike. The brand is focused on natural ingredients, hence the abundance of plant extracts used across the range.

It is worth noting that the vegan retinol alternative does not perform as well as a standard retinol product. Retinol is a human-made ingredient derived from Vitamin A and is a vegan component that is used by a range of skincare brands to even skin tone, texture, and the appearance of wrinkles.

However, the other ingredients or the retinol may have been tested on animals, so its cruelty-free status cannot be guaranteed.

How much?

The range can be bought individually or as a bundle offer. It comes with a premium skincare price tag, so it may not be suitable for all budgets. For those who are into their high-end skincare, it is an excellent range to invest in or sample some of Monat’s products.

If you only wanted to purchase one or two to try, they should fit into your current skincare routine nicely.

Final Verdict

Monat’s new skincare line has added another dimension to the beauty market. Their products can be used as a whole four-step routine, with dry/sensitive skin and normal/combination options. The products can be mixed across the two ranges allowing you to tailor your routine.

The products will deliver a difference to your skin; you should notice a brighter and more even skin tone. If you have the money to purchase these products, then they are worth considering. If not, the majority of these ingredients are available in cheaper alternatives.
